Follow a doctor’s instructions when caring for an infant with a granuloma. It looked a bit like this at her 1 month pediatrician appt and the doctor said that was a little long for it still to be that moist so she put on some silver nitrate to help dry it up. DD still looks like she has a bruise, but the pedi said it's normal for the belly button to look that way after silver nitrate's been used. It took 2 treatments about 4 days apart and we did not put her belly button under water until it dried up. It finally closed up about two days later. This action cannot be undone. A small stump of the cord is left on the navel, and it usually falls off within 1 to 2 weeks. Any large amount of discharge, true bleeding, or a bad smelling … However, they occasionally become infected. The surgeon says he has no other solution rather than surgery, did anyone have experience such condition, plz help us. So a few days ago I had him at the Dr. and they did a silver nitrate treatment to cauterize or seal it up.. anywhere the silver nitrate touches turns the skin black and then eventually rubs off.. anyone else have this done for their baby? My sons umbilical cord stump got caught on his clothing and came off too early. In plain English, this means that instead of healing completely when the umbilical cord stump fell off, some tissue remained. At follow-up visits, a doctor will determine if the granuloma is healing appropriately or if additional treatment is required. Doctors recommend the same treatments when these granulomas form in adults and newborns. However, if the granuloma does not go away with treatment, a piercing should be removed to encourage complete healing. An umbilical granuloma is one of the most common umbilical abnormalities in newborns.
